I have been getting to know KÜHL’s The One Hoody for close to a year now. I gotta say, we hit it off right away. This versatile jacket has been on my back or in my pack on several day hikes (or just running errands), especially during spring and autumn. I already have my favourite jackets and don’t usually stray too far. But when KÜHL reached out and offered a test run, I thought why not? And you know what… I’m not disappointed!

About KÜHL Clothing Company
KÜHL (pronounced “cool”) has burst onto the Canadian scene over the past few years. I feel like I see them everywhere. They’re certainly on more shelves in Canada than they used to be. As a self-proclaimed gear nerd, I do love opportunities to connect with businesses I admire and try high-quality gear.

In case you didn’t know, KÜHL remains an independent and privately-owned American business. I admire their commitment to working with environmentally-friendly and ethically-minded partners. And from what I’ve seen, their customer-centred approach is effective in producing high-quality gear you can depend on. At this point, I have a couple of KÜHL go-to’s (including the KÜHL Renegade Rock Pant) and have been happy with ’em.

KÜHL The One Hoody — Features and Specifications
What should you know about KÜHL’s The One Hoody? Well, first, it’s an ultralight insulated hoody with a soft micro-fleece lining. They call it “Aeroknit,” which is a polyester blend. And it stay soft after multiple uses. Oh, the jacket has a bit of stretch, too, with nylon and spandex materials. If you’re looking for an outer layer that keeps you warm without overheating, on a spring outdoor hike, this did the trick for me. I felt very comfortable wearing The One Hoody hiking on the coast without excessive sweating. The One Hoody also has an adjustable hoody (of course), zippered pockets, and stretch cuffs.

KÜHL The One Hoody — Style and Comfort
I’m not ashamed to say it — I like products that feel good AND look good. Does that make me a bougie backpacker? Probably. Am I okay with that? Absolutely, I am. When it comes to The One Hoody’s appearance, there’s a lot that immediately grabbed my attention. From the first try on, I was impressed by the flattering athletic fit. I have broad shoulders and these arms fit well without sacrificing body trim. I also really like the trendy deep pond / dark khaki colour pattern. But it’s cool if you prefer a different colour (see what I did there?). As an all-around piece, I’m as comfortable hiking as I am running errands wearing this jacket. That must be why they call it “the one.”
KÜHL The One Hoody — High-Quality All-Around Jacket
You probably know I’m a bit of a gear nerd. I worked at SAIL Outdoor Store in Ottawa for a couple of years, and I still love the chance to try out new products. I’m always curious to see how jackets or pants perform in different environments through various activities. With several multi-day excursions and day trips planned each year, it’s essential for me to have a high level of confidence in the gear and products I use.
Overall, I can say I’m quite impressed with The One Hoody. The design and materials look and feel high-quality. I love the colours of my particular jacket (it’s unlike anything I already own). As I mentioned earlier, I loved The One Hoody from day one. If you’re in the market for an ultralight hoody, why not give The One Hoody a shot?
What I Would Change — KÜHL The One Hoody
Alright, alright, I know what you’re thinking: “That’s a lot of praise but what’s wrong with The One Hoody?” Well, I do have one main complaint. For some reason, the zipper bunches at the top (when completely zipped) and pulls the collar to the right. At the end of the day, this is a minor issue and I can live with it… but it’s still slightly annoying. I want my zipper to be centred under my chin in perfect symmetry. See, what did I tell you? A bougie backpacker.
