If you’re planning to visit Newfoundland and Labrador, you’ve probably already heard something about Twillingate. Icebergs are easily the most talked-about reason to visit, and I knew going in that I was there outside iceberg season. Still, even without towering chunks of ice drifting past the cliffs, I had a fantastic time! Whether you’re from The Rock or coming from away, people are drawn to this little town for its coastal hiking trails, rugged scenery, and vibrant cultural heritage — and it turns out Twillingate delivers long after the icebergs are gone.
Last Updated: January 2026
Last summer, I finally made my way over to Newfoundland on the ferry from North Sydney to Port aux Basques. With the Long Range Traverse in Gros Morne as the main destination, you can bet I also had Twillingate on my mind. Known as the “Iceberg Capital of the World,” the town itself is a lovely place to visit, with a handful of great restaurants and artisan shops worth wandering into. Twillingate also delivers for outdoor lovers, with kayaking, hiking, and camping right at your doorstep. My visit was far too short, but I’m glad I got a small taste of what makes this place so special. Keep reading to see what I mean.

Rockcut Twillingate Trails — Best Things To Do in Twillingate
Without a doubt, hiking Rockcut Twillingate Trails was my favourite thing to do in Twillingate (don’t forget your trail runners). This 20-km coastal trail network stretches from French Beach to Lower Little Harbour, with plans to expand into longer multi-day backpacking routes in the future. I spent one night camping at Codjacks Cove and was genuinely impressed by the experience. Well-maintained trails, dramatic coastline, and a real sense of solitude made this an unforgettable place to hike.
Top of Twillingate Trail (Scenic Coastal Views)
Looking to stretch your legs after a long drive? Top of Twillingate is a great option! This easy-to-moderate hike (depending on your fitness level) follows a 3.5-km loop that most people can complete in about an hour or so. It’s worth slowing down, though, with plenty of spots to pause and take in sweeping coastal views along the way. Bring a day pack with a water bottle and even a few snacks.
Kayaking in Twillingate — Rock Adventures Kayak Tours
If you visit Twillingate in the springtime, you might have the chance to kayak alongside massive icebergs or even spot pods of humpback whales. When I arrived in July, the icebergs were long gone and the whales had moved on as well. Even so, I loved getting out on the water. Rock Adventures Kayak Tours is an excellent local outfitter offering sea kayak tours around Twillingate, including a calm and memorable sunset paddle. Without over-selling it, kayaking really is one of the best ways to experience this coastline from a different perspective. Thank you to Rock Adventures Kayak Tours for the complimentary tour. Amy was an excellent guide!
Sadly, it looks like Rock Adventures has closed its doors. If you know of any kayak tour operators in Twillingate, feel free to share your recommendations in the comments. Thank you!
Where To Eat in Twillingate
Split Rock Brewing Company
If you’re into craft beer, Stage Head Pub on Main Street is the spot in Twillingate. You’ll find a solid lineup of brews from Split Rock Brewing Company, all brewed locally. Not much of a beer drinker? I’d still recommend stopping in. The hot honey chicken burger alone is worth it (trust me), and there are plenty of other tasty options on the menu.
Annie’s Harbour Restaurant
When I visit somewhere new, I always try to track down the local favourites. Annie’s Harbour Restaurant is a go-to in Twillingate for good reason. It’s a charming spot with excellent seafood, warm hospitality, and beautiful ocean views. You won’t be disappointed.
Lickety Split Ice Cream
You may already know that I love ice cream. For a sweet treat in Twillingate, head to Lickety Split at 28 Toulinquet Street for classic hard ice cream and soft serve favourites. As for me, the choice was easy. The wildberry ice cream sundae, made with local blueberries!

Where To Stay in Twillingate — Sunshine Inn
I couldn’t have picked a better place for my first night in Twillingate. Sunshine Inn is right by the water and offers private rooms with ensuite bathrooms, along with shared spaces like a kitchen, cozy indoor living area, and an outdoor patio with a hot tub. I stayed in the Starboard Room and loved the harbourfront views. If you’re planning a visit, this is a great place to book a night.
Thank you to Sunshine Inn for providing a complimentary night’s stay. It was the perfect place to unwind and settle into Twillingate!
Day Trip: Visit Nearby Fogo Island
If you’ve got an extra day in Twillingate, a day trip to Fogo Island is well worth the effort. It’s an early start with the ferry crossing, but the payoff is big. Rugged coastlines, colourful fishing villages, and a slow pace of life. One of the highlights for me was hiking up Brimstone Head, often called one of the four corners of the Earth.
